Liver & Spring Season is here!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Spring season and the Liver are interconnected and have a significant impact on the body's overall health.

Spring is considered the season of the Liver in TCM, and it is associated with the Wood element. During this time, the energy of the Liver is thought to be at its peak, as it prepares the body for growth and regeneration. Spring is seen as a time of renewal, transformation, and change, which makes it an ideal time for detoxification and cleansing.

The Liver is considered one of the most important organs in TCM, and its functions go beyond detoxification. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body, and any disruptions in its function can lead to a variety of health problems. In TCM, the Liver is also linked to emotions such as anger, frustration, and irritability.

When the Liver is functioning well, a person is said to have a healthy and balanced body, mind, and spirit. However, if the Liver's Qi is blocked or stagnant, it can result in various symptoms such as headaches, irritability, and depression.

In TCM, it is recommended to take care of the Liver during the Spring season by eating fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, engaging in physical activity, and practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga. This helps to support the Liver's natural detoxification process, promote the smooth flow of Qi, and balance emotions.

There are several herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that are commonly used to support the Liver and promote health during the Spring season. Here are a few examples:

1. Dandelion root - Dandelion root is a common herb used to support Liver function in TCM. It is believed to help promote the flow of Qi, detoxify the Liver, and reduce inflammation.

2. Milk thistle - Milk thistle is another herb that is commonly used to support Liver health. It is believed to have antioxidant properties that help protect the Liver from damage, as well as anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation.

3. Tumeric - Turmeric is a well-known anti-inflammatory herb that is believed to help reduce inflammation in the Liver and support its detoxification process.

4. Schisandra - Schisandra is an adaptogenic herb that is believed to help improve Liver function and promote the flow of Qi. It is also believed to have a calming effect on the mind, which can help balance emotions.

We've put together a few of our favourite liver supplements here!

It's important to note that these herbs should be used under the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner trained in TCM. Dosages and preparation methods can vary based on individual needs and health conditions.
